As any significant awards ceremony draws close, you'll find an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.
My colleague made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category during that awards season
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences globally continuing this trend for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
